The Forgotten Mystic: Chapter Eleven“We’ll have to be careful,” Masama was telling her friends, “A basilisk is rumored to live in the woods that we’re about to enter.”The Forgotten Mystic: Chapter Eleven by MimitheGreat
“What’s a basilisk?” Jillia wondered.
Mallumo answered. “A basilisk is a monstrous bird-snake beast that can turn a creature to stone with one look.”
“Like, forever?” Sirak questioned in surprise.
“I don’t know of any cure.” answered Mallumo, “So yeah, forever.”
Sirak looked nervous. “Definitely something we want to avoid, then.”
“I feel pity the basilisk.” Shika murmured, “It must wish it didn’t have that power.”
“I wouldn’t feel bad for it.” said Masama, “It’s destroyed so many lives.” She thought for a moment. “Though I believe I read something about basilisks starting out as

Masama sighed heavily. She had been napping in a scraggly tree she had found, but though it was a good distance from Kytea, she was worried someone may spot her. So, Masama felt too nervous to fall asleep.
She couldn't help but think that she was not being very loyal by hiding as her friends gave such an important speech. Could they find their way around the city? Were they captured and thrown into jail?
Masama decided that she should at least keep a lookout like she had said she would.
"If I'm careful, surely no one will notice me." she told herself.
After a few minutes of travel, Masama reached the wall. The guards weren't paying attention, so she just flew over them.
She noted the poor condition of the city. "What a decrepit little town," she thought to herself.
Masama tried to think of what she had learned about Kytea. "Hm...oh, I remember now. This was an important town, be

Masama's eyes drifted open lazily. It was very early morning. The sky was still dark and the air was crisp and cold. She looked around and saw that all of her friends were still asleep. She smiled, thinking of all the adventures she had had with them, even though they had only met a few days ago. It was nice to finally belong.
She was about to tuck her beak back into her wing when she noticed that one of her feathers was glowing. It was towards the end of Masama's tail, right against the black line of feathers.
Masama noticed something strange happening. Her feathers always had a sort of glowing element to them, but right before her eyes, all of the life seemed to be sapped out of it, living a cold, lifeless...black feather.
Startled, she fluttered backwards, squawking. Her friends woke up slowly, looking at her in confusion.
"What in Mystic are you doing?" Mallumo questioned, looking very cranky.
"Oh, um...I thought I sa

"W-Who's there?" Jillia called.
"Perhaps I should be asking you that question, as you are the ones on forbidden territory." it said.
Masama was successful at lightning another fire. They heard and saw two giant white and tan speckled wings flap once, extinguishing the flame in the huge gust of wind the creature created.
"However, since I am kind and noble, I shall answer your question. I am Oscuro, member of the Viporas Astucia. You are in my home, and must be eliminated, as I believe you were informed of. Did you not see the sign?" he said. His voice was calm yet forbidding.
"Ah...must've missed it."lied Mallumo, cowering from the being.
Jillia squinted her eyes. She couldn't really see what the creature looked like, but could make out an outline. When it moved, it was tall, yet when it was resting its head was lower to the groun
